Middle and High School Finally Within Reach for Kaua‘i’s North Shore
After a 22-month suspension of the charter application process, the Hawai‘i State Charter Commission announced in December 2021 that the process would resume and set an application deadline of February 4, 2022. The Namahana Team led by School Leader Dr. Kapua Chandler and Governing Board Chair Melanie Mitsue Parker quickly mobilized resources and submitted a detailed and extensive application to the Charter Commission.
Looking Back and Looking Forward
With a new COVID variant spreading, 2022 is unfortunately not shaping up to be the New Year we had hoped for. But while the future is uncertain, we can be sure that the members of our North Shore communities will continue to stand by one other during difficult times. I’m certain of this because of how our community has responded to not only the pandemic, but also to economic dislocation and natural disasters, like the landslide. Our resilience and support for one another are what make the North Shore such a special place.
Focus on Fitness
We are thrilled to learn that the Kaua‘i Athletic Club--a past sponsor of the Fit Fest--is opening a new facility, Kilauea Phys Ed, at ‘Ahuimanu in 2022, which will help alleviate the need for a community health facility and close the loop on our efforts. Other topics in this issue include: -
